It is a weak estrogen and a potent antiestrogen with a high therapeutic index.Saheli is different from other birth control pills because it doesn’t contain any hormones. Instead of using the hormone it blocks estrogen to prevent pregnancy

Working of the drug:
This drug consists of Centchroman. It has a weak estrogenic and potent anti-estrogenic action. Centchroman works by blocking the estrogen in the uterus that leads to the alteration of the uterus lining, which prevents a fertilized egg from implanting.Since it did not affect or disturb the endocrine system, normal ovulatory cycle is maintained.

Before you take the drug:
Do not take the drug if you:
- Are allergic to this active ingredient Centchromanor any other ingredients of the medicine
- Have a Polycystic ovarian disease
- Have Cervical hyperplasia
- You are a man or child
Tell your doctor if you:

- Have diabetes
- Have a jaundice or a liver disease

Dosage:
How much to take the drug?
The dosage depends upon your age, weight, medical condition and your response to the treatment. Therefore, your doctor will decide the dose. Take the dose exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Never take two doses at one time
How to take the drug?
The drug is usually recommended to take, 1 tablet of 30 mg twice a week for 3 months. For e.g. if you take the first pill on a Sunday take the second one on Wednesday. From the fourth month onwards, take only one tablet once a week as long as you don’t want to get pregnant.
For how long to take it?
You should take the dose until you don’t want to have pregnancy. Do not change the dose, use this medicine as per your doctor’s direction. You should complete the prescribed dose.
Overdose:
In case of an overdose, get emergency medical attention or call the doctor immediately.
Miss dose:
If you miss a dose of Saheli, then take it as soon as you remember. Never take the missed dose if the time to take the next dose is almost up. Taking multiple doses at almost the same time, can lead to excess medication in your body which can be harmful.
Side effects of the drug:
